A Bachelor style meal – Bacon, Onion & Kraft Cheese wrap
By Greg B. It’s 9:30pm, and you’ve just come home from work. You’re tired, there are no roommates around, and you just want a beer. After finding a nice delicious Dale’s Pale Ale in the fridge, you begin to think about food. Unfortunately, you’re broke and live in the ghetto, so most food places are closed by now, or are closing and your options are just plain limited. After checking out the fridge and freezer to find what types of food you have squirreled away, you begin to realize that, besides copious amounts of condiments, you have pretty much nothing. But you do have bacon… an unopened package of kraft cheese singles, a few onions (getting old though) and one leftover tortilla. What can be done with this?
The answer: The Bacon tortilla wrap. I probably don’t need to go into specifics here, as the outcome will seem inevitable. Like the plot of some obvious movie… but I’m going to write some more and bore you anyway. I had all that leftover bacon from the bacon pinata, so I was still eating it (yes, I finished all the leftover pork/sausage and foods by this time! and also, i’m writing this post months later). I simply crisped 1 pound of bacon in a cast iron skillet (though I like my bacon not fully crispy, so it wasn’t 100% crisp at the time).
yes, gross. but it was all I had!
Crisp 1 pound of bacon in a pan, to this I added sliced onions for a few minutes, let them cook until just starting to brown at the edges. I took my one remaining flour tortilla, laid out some strips of kraft singles white American pasteurized prepared cheese product, a thin layer of Jack Daniel’s original No.7 Recipe, some of the bacon and onions, and went to town.
How did it taste? Well, beggars cant be choosers. It tasted pretty much like you’d imagine, a crunchy, BBQ bacon wrap with some kind of sticky and gooey cheese stuff inside. With a glass of Brooklyn lager, it wasn’t the healthiest dinner, nor the best dinner, but it certainly had the calories I needed to refuel after a day in the lab! And to put off going to the grocery store another day.

But did you eat it standing up? My wife always laughs when I make myself dinner and she can tell that I ate at the kitchen counter.
You have to consider some peppper bacon from somewhere like Trueth or Laurel Meat Market for the next one. Even better.
Haha, I didnt eat it standing up, but I did eat it while on the couch watching the simpsons! I havent been to Trueth in a long time, so I think I’ll have to pay them a visit!
I know what you mean about putting off the trip to the grocery. Ugh.
Now, while you prefer a beer with that nice bacon wrap, I would grab a nice, moderately priced Cabernet or a Merlot — to really warm you up and pump up the comfort juices.
If you ever want some suggestions, check out my v-blog (http://www.pardonthatvine.com), where I give wine reviews on video. A lot of the wines I recommend and taste are moderately priced.
Take care, Chris
