Beer of the Day: Summer Solstice Cerveza Creme
By Greg B. I’ve been trying a lot of beer, mostly because I want to but also because I feel I need to keep branching out and buying beers to sample for you guys, the readers. To be honest, this has mostly been a great thing, though there sometimes are beers that are awful. This one I’m going to review now, is one of those beers.
Ok, to be fair, the brewery Anderson Vally Brewing co does make some good beers. The hop ottin is pretty good and I do enjoy their oatmeal stout. But this beer….. not so much. The beer pours a dark amber, coppery color, very clear with a very very small head. On the aroma there are some malty, biscuity caramel aromas, but they smell kind of artificial. This aroma profile continues into the flavor, which tastes sweet and lightly caramel, though honestly it tastes fake and I cant get this artificial flavor thing out of my head.
The beer continues, in the back of the label, with some of the cheesiest writing I’ve seen in a long time. I’m not going to repeat it here, but pick up a bottle in a liquor store and read it for yourself… you’ll see why I took the time to mention it here. This beer is downright awful, and to try to sell it as an easy drinking summer beer, they’d have to be insane. The beer is so syrupy and sweet (despite the carbonation) and just generally fake tasting, you couldn’t pay me enough to say this is a refreshing beer. It does, however, look pretty in color. 1.2/5, 5.6% abv
