Wine Pick: 2006 Jean-Louis Chave Crozes Hermitage ‘Silene’, Rhone Valley, France
Crozes Hermitage is the largest AOC in the northern Rhone Valley of Southern France. The red wines from Crozes Hermitage are Syrah based, with some wines seeing a touch of either Marsanne or Rousanne. The reds are characterized by generous amounts of fruit and spice, with good acidity with medium tannins through the finish. In general, wines from Crozes Hermitage drink well young, while there are a few examples of wines that mature well and get better with age.
This 2006 JL Chave Crozes Hermitage rolls in around $30 is fits into that category of may get better in 2-5 years in a sense that all the components should come together even better. Still, the wine is drinking beautifully now with loads of dark fruit, minerals, smoked meat, and good acidity through the finish. An outstanding wine to pair with wild game, lamb dishes or grilled meats. My rating: 91 pts, VGV (Very Good Value)

Have we had a wine with dark fruits and mineral before? I think that combo sounds great!
