Wine Pick: 2005 Domaine Grand Veneur Cotes du Rhone Villages
Here is a nice Côtes du Rhône Villages for $15 that is drinking well:
2005 Domaine Grand Veneur Côtes du Rhône Villages - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages:
Opened and tasted, then decanted for 2 hours. Drank over the next hour from a Riedel Vitis Riesling stem. Initially the sweet fruit and heat were overwhelming and the wine seemed disjointed. After decant, the wine was much more balanced. Aroma’s of cherry, red licorice, cinnamon, and wood. On the palate there is a touch of acidity followed by baked plum, dark cherry, and licorice with wood appearing on the finish with medium tannins that aren’t fully resolved. A touch of heat remained, but overall the rest of the wine balanced it out. Good QPR, would be fantastic with a braised short rib. My rating: 88 pts
