Brouwerj De Molen’s SSS, Hel & Verdoemenis & again, Rasputin
By Greg B. I’m writing this post just to express how amazed and fortunate I was to find three beers, from Brouwerj de Molen in the Wine Source, even at good prices. As you may know, I was fortunate to find two bottles of Rasputin in the past 7 months, as well as a bottle of their Porter. But the other day, I hit the jackpot.
I went to the Wine Source to find a good bottle of wine to serve some of my Italian friends at home with dinner, something to go with pizza from Zella’s. After settling on two bottles of Seghesio Dolcetto d’Alba, I turned around to leave, but decided to walk down the beer aisle, just to see what they had. Man was I lucky I did! As I turned the corner, I immediately recognized the shape of the bottles from Brouwerj de Molen, and then was amazed to see so many different bottles all in one place. I immediately put back the wine and went back to see what they had in stock.

Holy cow! 3 bottles of Rasputin, 4 bottles of their Porter, 2 bottles of Hel & Verdoemenis, and 3 bottles of SSS, their triple stout. Since I am on a rather limit budget, I limited myself to buying only three of the bottles there. I had previous had the Porter, and it was great, and though I had also previous had the Rasputin, that was good enough and rare enough that I had to purchased it again, so I bought a bottle of the Rasputin, Hel & Verdoemenis, and the SSS.
I am very glad the Brouwerj de Molen began exporting their beers to the US last last year, and look forward to trying some of these newer beers they have here. Since I already have another Rasputin squirreled away in the cellar, expect another review of that beer in the coming weeks, since I know I wont be able to cellar two Rasputins very long! These other beers will go into the cellar to wait their turn, some time when I can give them the full appreciation they deserve. These are beers that require hours to drink, contemplate and enjoy and should ideally be enjoyed with friends or during a night when one can relax.
