Alone in Montalcino - A visit in November
(Article truncated due to space) Situated in the heart of Tuscany 70 miles south of Florence, the city of Montalcino is filled with post-card worthy scenery and world class food and wine. The town, whose name comes from a type of oak tree that once covered the region, occupies roughly 94 square miles of hillside, vineyards and olive groves, with the highest point being the location of the main Fortress at around 3000 feet above sea level. In the spring, summer an fall Montalcino is packed with tourists looking to experience the food, wine and Montalcine culture first hand. But it’s in the winter, when most traveler’s seek warm destinations that I find Montalcino to be an ideal escape from the stress and bustle of our normal lives.
